Multifandom Doodle 2021 - Feedback Post!
Hello! The first round of Multifandom Doodle has officially concluded. If you participated in any way — signing up, picking up pinch hits, creating treats, giving feedback on rules, or even just dropping by to say that this looked like a fun idea — thank you for being part of this exchange!
This exchange will run again. Before the exchange runs again, I would like to get everyone's input on how the first round went.
Please leave your feedback below (anon is enabled) or email multifandomdoodle@gmail.com .
You are also welcome to leave your input on the following mod-proposed changes for next round:
- Add an age requirement to the rules.
- All participants must be the legal age of majority in their jurisdiction. While Multifandom Doodle is not inherently a NSFW event, the event is intended for adults and adult content might be requested, offered, discussed, or in the case of pinch hits, posted to the DW comm. If it's brought to mod attention that a participant is a minor, that participant's signup will be deleted.
- Increase the maximum number of characters/ships/places/objects that may be requested and offered to 20.
- Enable participants to offer/request "Creator's Choice".
- Creator's Choice of Fandom(s) will be a pre-added fandom in the tagset. Eligible tag phrasing could range from Creator's Choice of [X] to Creator's Fave in a Kigurumi to As Many Cats As Creator Can Think Of… etc.
- Creator's Choice of [X] will be considered an eligible character/ship/place/object tag phrasing within specific fandoms (Creator's Choice of Pokemon, Creator's Choice of Dumbledore's Outfits, Creator's Choice of Vladimir's Tiny Unicorns, etc.).
- Participants with no potential recipients at the time of matching will be matched at random to a recipient who requested Creator's Choice of Fandom(s).
Unless there are widespread concerns about any of the mod-proposed changes, these changes will be added to the rules for next round.
Next round will run either in six months with reveals on July 25, or in a year with reveals on December 25. Please leave your input on when you'd like the next round to run.
Thank you again for participating and I look forward to your feedback!

(Anonymous) 2022-01-01 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)Age requirement: I mean I guess it makes sense?
More requests: to be honest 10 already felt like a lot, who needs twenty--
Creator's Choice: Sounds interesting and will probably help?

There was never a set opening time for work and author reveals, and the collection did reveal on the dates it was planned to. Thank you for letting me know that the lack of a set opening time was confusing, we can schedule a specific time for next round. :)
The max for character/ship/etc. requests in the first round was 18 (changed from 10 at participant request), is it possible you have confused it with the max for fandoms (which was 10 and won't be changing)?
Thank you again!

I was wondering if it would be possible to have an actual time for reveals, like hours and minutes, instead of just the day. Cause without the time I'm not sure at which point in the day I need to redate my stuff, or if I still have a window for posting late treats. Also, a set time would be nice so I don't have to keep checking the collection or DW throughout the day as well.
Thank you so much for running MFD, I had such a fun time, and I'm looking forward to the next round <3

Yes, we can have a set time for reveals next time!
Thank you for participating and I'm glad you enjoyed it.

I'd love a next round in six months if that's feasible/workable; I enjoyed this round tremendously and I'm always glad to see more fanart exchanges.

Proposed rules:
Age: Yes, thank you.
Max offers: No objection here.
Creator's choice: Generally in favour, especially unmatchable offers getting matched to those who requested Creator's Choice of fandom.
Schedule: I personally enjoyed the December 25 reveal, but have no objections for July. Any time of year is going to be busy for somebody.

Thank you for the feedback :) To clarify, if there is another round in July, there would also still be a third round in December 2022 -- it's just a question of this exchange running annually or bi-annually.

Ultimately there will be some vagueness, but the fannish vs. original differentiator should help clarify most cases. Basically, if you're looking for fanart of any pre-existing property, you should nominate/request under CC; tags nominated/requested under OW should be understood as looking for an original creation unless the requester's optional details say otherwise. Does this make sense?

i’d try a july exchange but i did really like the schedule this time too. 👍
age requirement: yes please

There would still be a December 2022 round whether we do a July round or not :)
Now that the first round has concluded I am comfortable saying that I feel very strongly about the age requirement myself and am pretty embarrassed about the situation that was reported at the beginning of this round. If it had come to my attention before signups opened I would've edited the rules right away and it was my oversight not to have an age requirement in the first place. Just because this is a low minimum art exchange shouldn't suddenly make it an appropriate place for someone to try and make it into a literal "baby's first exchange" for their kid. I have negative interest in moderating an event like that. If somebody else wants to run that kind of event in the future, more power to them, but this is not the place. Anyway, thank you to everyone who did bring up the situation so things like that can be nipped in the bud in future! :D

As far as the mod-proposed changes go, I'm in favor of them all:
1) I honestly didn't mind that it was an all-ages exchange (there was plenty to draw, and I was definitely in fandom as a minor once upon a time), but I also enjoy drawing/looking at smutty things, and I'm not comfortable doing those without the age requirement.
2) I'm honestly unlikely to utilize Creator's Choice options, but a lot of people really love them, so this seems like a good plan!
3) I can't see a downside to more options (and personally will totally offer a full 20 things for some fandoms, especially when it comes to objects and settings).
Also, let me be another enthusiastic vote for having rounds every six months! (Having this exchange more than once a year was the main thing I was planning to suggest, if you hadn't gotten there already!) If anything, I think a summer round will work even better for many of us, since the end of the year is so exchange-heavy, and generally busy for most people.
I can't wait to do this again (and draw more things than I did this round)!

I agree with all your proposed changes. Your last point about matching people with no recipients will probably help the exchange run even more smoothly, too. I was reluctant to ask for more explicitly NSFW thing because of the age thing, like the previous commenter, so I definitely think the age requirement thing is for the best. I think a specific time for reveals is a good idea as well. And I'd definitely be up for another round in six months!
But mostly really I wanted to thank you for this fun experience. I'm still getting replies on comments I left on art right now and it just makes me smile.

Creator’s Choice of stuff would be nice but I’ll participate regardless
