Creators revealed + feedback
Jul. 30th, 2023 08:39 pmCreators have been revealed for Multifandom Doodle 2023, round 1.
To everyone who nominated tags, signed up, picked up pinch hits, created treats, and/or commented on art... thank you for being part of this exchange and I hope you had fun! :)
A second round is planned for 2023 with nominations opening in October and reveals on December 25.
As usual I don't have any big changes in the works for next round. If you have any feedback or suggested changes based on this round, please leave your feedback below (anon is enabled) or email multifandomdoodle@gmail.com .

Date: 2023-08-25 09:49 am (UTC)The reason why is that I don't think "Creator's Choice of Scene from Recipient's AO3 Fic" is a pure CCOF request in the way that the other tags in that category (such as "Creator's Choice of Rat") are -- the latter allows the creator pure choice among their own canons even if the recip is not familiar with it, while the former restricts the set of possible canons down to a specific subset. Because MFD automatically assigns unmatchables to a CCOF reqeust, it can cause problems if someone is assigned to a person requesting CCOF and only the "Creator's Choice of Scene from Recipient's AO3 Fic" tag as they may have no fandom overlap and it may not be as flexible of a request as you might expect from a CCOF request.
Therefore, I think the best solution would be to separate out that tag into its own fandom rather than keeping it under "Creator's Choice of Fandom."

Date: 2023-08-25 02:12 pm (UTC)Thinking about not just the specific tag you mentioned but also a few other ones like the ones related to recips' OCs/DND characters/etc., it might make the most sense to have a separate category for anything related to drawings of something the requester themselves created (OCs, illustrations for their fic, illustrations for their OW, and so forth) instead of grouping these things under CCOF, since none of those are quite in the spirit of Creator's Choice. My goal has always been for MFD to be an artist-first exchange that thinks of the creators' experience first and preventing it from becoming a place where creators are forced or pressured into creating what amounts to free commissions for their recips is a big part of that. Of course if a creator wants to do that, they should have the option to - I think splitting out those tags from CCOF would help with this.
I also think it might make more sense to only allow "Creator's Choice of Scene from Recipient's AO3 Fic" as a tag that is associated to a specific fandom (or to OW), to avoid the issue you pointed out with people getting matched to CCOF of a scene from a fic in a fandom they don't know.
What are your thoughts?
Also, thanks for the feedback, it's very helpful! :)

Date: 2023-08-25 08:30 pm (UTC)Either of the options you floated sounds good to me! With nominating "Creator's Choice of Scene from Recipient's AO3 Fic" under specific fandoms, it sounds like that would work as a fandom-specific prompt and would make matching much more straightforward. At the same time, it could be a bit of a pain for people to remember to nominate it under all the fandoms they're interested in, so I'm not sure which option is better. But I think either sounds fine!
