Hello! Nominations are now closed.

There is a lingering question about what duplicate tags are listed under Dragon Age. Once this question has been resolved and the duplicates removed, signups for the 2021 round will open.

Please check the tagset and comment here if you notice anything else amiss such as misspelled tags, duplicate tags, or misassociated/migrating tags.

Hey there! So I'm noticing some potential confusion with multiple versions of a fandom being nominated. The example I'm looking at is Marvel 616 and X-Men (Comicverse). X-Men comics are part of the overarching Marvel 616 universe, and several characters have been nominated under both. This may also apply to "Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon | Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon" (which is an "all media types" fandom) and "Sailor Moon (1992 Anime)." It might be worth combining these sets of fandoms?

Also, "Arthur Curry (DCEU)" is showing up under DCU, while "Mera (DCU)" is under DC Extended Universe (right after her counterpart, "Mera (DCEU)").

Thanks so much for running this fest! I'm really looking forward to signing up. <3

Hm, that's tricky! Nobody likes sign-up delays, but I have to say, in this case I would personally support them, because redundancies like the ones I'm seeing in Marvel Comics/X-Men might significantly affect matching (although I'm fully willing to admit to bias, since that's one of my primary fandoms, and my favorite character is one of the ones nominated under both iterations).

You're the mod; ultimately, it's entirely up to you. I'd be more than happy to help with the information you're requesting in fandoms I'm familiar with (which doesn't include DA, unfortunately), but I get it if you'd like to just run sign-ups as-is for this year.

Either way, thank you!

Looks great to me! The only thing I’m noticing as I read through the Marvel 616 list one more time is: I’m not terribly familiar with her, but I believe Gwen Poole and Gwenpool are the same character (those are her given name and code name/alias, respectively). Apart from that, I think we’re good!

There's something similar going on for "DCU (Comics)" and "Batman (Comics)," where characters are nominated multiple times over in spite of those technically being the same canon. I noticed this earlier but wasn't sure if it was supposed to be a feature or a bug for folks since I'm fairly new to exchanges, myself.

I'm also a little confused about the floating "Batman - All Media Types" that I noticed just now, which results in triplicates for some characters under the Cartoons & Comics & Graphic Novels header.

I don't know exactly how you want to handle this, but it looks like several characters from Star Wars Legends: Knights of the Old Republic (Video Games) have also been nominated under Star Wars Legends - All Media Types.

In particular, Bastila Shan, Female Revan and Juhani are showing up both places, and Female Revan actually appears twice under Knights of the Old Republic, once as Female Revan (KOTOR) and once as Female Revan (Star Wars).

Thank you! I was the nominator who disambiguated (KOTOR).

So, Star Wars Legends encompasses the entire old EU (everything besides the movies pre-Disney, roughly), while KOTOR is a specific video game property set several thousand years before the movies with an entirely different cast, and there are apparently KOTOR fans who are not familiar with the main Star Wars universe. My preference - and I've seen other fans also state this - is for KOTOR to be completely separate from the general Star Wars universe as its own fandom in exchanges, and for the KOTOR characters to be nominated solely under KOTOR. People often nominate and request KOTOR in exchanges with no requests for other Star Wars characters.

I think it would also be reasonable to have the characters nominated under both, similar to how you might have, for example, Sam Wilson nominated both as part of the MCU and specifically as part of a Marvel TV show, as long as it's clear that this is the case. Regardless, though, it looks like Juhani is disambiguated as (Star Wars) under the KOTOR section and probably migrated from a nomination under star Wars Legends - All Media, so that should probably be fixed

I hope that helps!

Ahh, I might be responsible for the "Juhani (Star Wars)" tag. I nominated her under KOTOR, but used the auto-filled tag and I think "Juhani (Star wars)" is the canonical version.

I'm for keeping the KOTOR characters separately, but what about SWTOR then? (game in nominally same universe, but not technically a part of the series)

I'm not personally in SWTOR fandom, but I've seen it nominated either as its own fandom or as part of Star Wars Legends before. I don't think I've ever seen it nominated just in combination with the KOTOR games. Maybe the nominators could weigh in on their preference (including you, if you're a nominator)?

For the mod, SWTOR's cast is also separate from KOTOR and the movies, but it takes place in the same period several thousand years pre-movies.

I haven't nommed SWTOR, but it is in the fandoms, and there is a "Female Revan (Star Wars)" under it. Hopefully the person will weigh in. Otherwise, I would leave it separate and keep its Revan as a separate character, I think...

There appears to be some issues with the Star Trek categories as well.

Under Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies): James T. Kirk, Leonard "Bones" McCoy, Nyota Uhura, and Spock are all listed twice. Additionally, this media (Star Trek: Alternate Original Series (Movies)) is listed under Movies as well as TV Shows. I'm not sure if this is a problem or not. To my knowledge there isn't an AOS TV series, only films.

Star Trek: The Original Series is also listed under both Movies and TV Shows. I'm not sure if this is a mistake or intentional as The Original Series started as a TV show but also developed films later with the same characters.

Thank you so much for running this! Your work is greatly appreciated!

Those are definitely duplicate tags that were disambiguated differently when nominated and can definitely be cleaned up.

The Category thing is all on AO3, mods can't do anything about that part.

DC Comics Related Clean up. This is my suggestion(s) on how to handle them...

Batman - All Media Types, Batman (Comics), and Young Justice (Comics) could all be removed and nominations folded into DCU (Comics)

In order to do that you would need to add/re-associate the following nominations under DCU (Comics);
Edward Nygma
Helena Bertinelli
Jervis Tetch
Jonathan Crane
Oswald Cobblepot
group: Tim Drake & Kon El
group: Tim Drake & Kon El & Bart Allen & Cassie Sandsmark
group: Young Justice (original team) – I would delete and re-add this one reworded as "Group: The Original Young Justice Team (DCU)"

Everything else in those tags were duplicates of things already in the DCU (Comics) Fandom Header.

The Helena Bertinelli (DCEU) is also wandering, but that might be solved after the combining happens.

I would consider adding (DCU) and (DCEU) to any character tags for characters that appear in both to try and keep them from wandering (assuming wandering is still an issue after the clean up).

It is possible that the person or person(s) that originally used Batman - All Media Types were looking for animated series related nominations and that some of the other DCU related tags simply wandered in, but unless they speak up to say so the characters requested there aren’t significantly different enough art wise from what you can find in comics that I would worry about it, and they can always include in their requests that they enjoy the Animated version/style of the characters.

I noticed this one late--so no worries if nothing can be done at this point--there's "Creator's Choice of Fandom" and "Creator's Choice of Fandoms". The second one with the plural has fewer tags in it, and no one has signed up using it yet. I think the tags from that one could become part of "Creator's Choice of Fandom". Thank you for your work! [Edit: It looks like someone has used both, so disregard! Sorry about the extra ping!]
